WP9: Horizontal level of Integrative-AI, experiment case studies/use cases/pilots Platform

extension, Synergies Industry in challenging domains

Task Lead: FBK PI: Paolo Traverso, Co-PI: Paolo Giorgini

Coordination among Work Packages 1-8 by addressing the challenge of the horizontal Integrative-AI. Set up of experimental evaluation through collaboration with private companies and public institutions in real world settings, such as autonomous systems for industrial plants, applications for social aware systems, and virtual coaching for health and wellbeing.

Effort 21p/m + cascading funds.

Description of work

Task 2.9.0 Coordination among Work Packages 1-- 8 -   Task Leaders: Paolo Traverso - Paolo Giorgini

This task will provide a common ground (based on real world use cases) to Work Packages 1-8 enabling them to address the challenge of the horizontal Integrative-AI. The task aims at combining integrative techniques for modeling, reasoning, and deliberation in autonomous agents, with integrative techniques for interaction with the environment, including humans, and with techniques for cooperation among multiple artificial and human agents.

Task 2.9.1 Identification and definition of use cases - Task Leaders: Paolo Traverso - Paolo Giorgini

Pilots and a set of use cases will be identified and defined in detail during this task; they will cover:

●       Industry and Manufacturing, including autonomous systems for industrial plants, AI systems working in physical industrial environments, by integrating model based reasoning and learning from data and human behaviors).

●       Health and Wellbeing, including AI based virtual coaching for health and wellbeing by integrating process models, learning and explainable paradigms to prevent and cure diseases.

●       Smart Cities, Areas, and Communities, including applications for social aware systems through a Cooperative-AI able to understand the dynamics of society, to work in a community of cooperative humans and artificial agents, and to promote collectively beneficial joint actions.

●       Agri-food, including AI for the whole agri-food value chain, for efficient and sustainable agriculture and food production, contributing to climate change mitigation and adaptation, AI for digital and precision agriculture.

Task 2.9.2 Use cases development: M6-M36 - Task Leaders: Paolo Traverso - Paolo Giorgini

This task represents the development of pilots. The developed activities will contribute to the test and improve a supply chain that moves from advanced research (TRL3) and inspect the possibility to reach final products and services by demonstrating activities (TRL4-5).

Task 2.9.3 Open calls for cascading funding: M6-M24 - Task Leaders: Paolo Traverso- Paolo Giorgini

This task iteratively defines the goals, topics, and requirements of the open calls for cascading funding, adapting them to the progress of the project and to the external landscape. A specific focus will be on multidisciplinary and industrial pilots involving empirical studies exploiting the achievements of the various WPs. This task will also cover the publication of the open call, the evaluation of proposals (through a selection committee composed of members internal and experts external to the project), and the monitoring of the progress of the funded projects.

It is planned to have different batches of cascade calls according to the global plan of FAIR.
