FAIR Spoke 2: INTEGRATIVE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
Fondazione Bruno Kessler
Trento (Italy)
About Fair Spoke 2:
Current research in AI successfully addresses specific tasks within a relatively narrow domain or complex problems that can be broken down into simpler independent sub-problems.
To overcome the complexity barrier, we need a substantial change in the approach to AI research. We need research that goes beyond the current approach based on vertical and separate AI areas. We need an integrated approach, which can be defined as Integrative-AI. We propose a comprehensive interdisciplinary approach oriented toward theories and techniques that integrate various scientific methods, technologies, disciplines, and skills. We will study the integration of heterogeneous computational representations and reasoning/learning techniques (inference), such as the integration of data-driven and model-based approaches, as well as symbolic and sub-symbolic representations.
